Volunteers in Ladakh

Our partner organization, Základní článek Hnutí Brontosaurus Modrý kámen (Blue Stone), has been in charge of sending volunteers to Ladakh, India.

History of Blue Stone volunteers in Ladakh

In 2006, Blue Stone sent their first volunteers from the Outer Limits project to Ladakh, India. These were the volunteers who taught at schools and/or helped with the construction and renovation of monasteries in Ladakh, and who originated the idea of the new La Ngonpo educational project. They approached the Multicultural Centre Prague for its implementation.

Volunteering has been defined more precisely over the course of the project. The main task of the volunteers has been to prepare Ladakhi students and teachers for teaching and learning according to the La Ngonpo methodology. Teachers, accustomed to a traditional teaching method and rote memorization, have found it rather unusual.

In the pilot years 2010 and 2011, the volunteers worked on the project at the Moravian Mission School of Leh and SECMOL (Students' Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh). Cooperation with some other schools is currently under negotiation.

Who can become a volunteer in Ladakh in the La Ngonpo project?

This option is open to all candidates, preferably people interested in multicultural education and global development education, IT experts, methodologists and teachers. IT professionals will be in charge of preparation and integration of new computers for selected schools in India, so that the www.la-ngonpo.org website works both offline and online. Teachers and students will volunteer to teach courses, and provide assistance to local teachers with their teaching methods according to the La Ngonpo methodology. They will also organize testing lessons for students, as well as photography and artistic workshops.

Information about the opportunity to become a volunteer in Ladakh can be found on the website www.brontosaurivhimalajich.cz.
